Scope and Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This policy applies to all tutors working with students via Teachwise Tutoring (EDU) LTD, whether tuition is delivered online or face-to-face, and regardless of whether students are based in the UK or overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The purpose of this policy is to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Protect any child or young person who comes into contact with Teachwise Tutoring from harm, abuse, or neglect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide clear guidance to tutors on their safeguarding responsibilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure that Teachwise Tutoring operates in line with UK safeguarding law, even when teaching international students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Safeguarding Principles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are committed to the welfare of children and young people and believe they have the right to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Feel safe at all times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be protected from neglect, abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), or exploitation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be respected and heard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We operate within the principles of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Children Act 1989 and 2004.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keeping Children Safe in Education (2024).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Prevent Duty Guidance (2015).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where our students are overseas, we will still apply UK safeguarding principles, while respecting local laws and, if necessary, working with local safeguarding bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Recognising Safeguarding Concerns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tutors must remain alert to signs of possible abuse, including but not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physical abuse \u2013 unexplained injuries or fear of physical contact.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emotional abuse \u2013 excessive criticism, withdrawal, or low self-esteem.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sexual abuse \u2013 inappropriate sexual behaviour or knowledge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neglect \u2013 lack of basic needs, poor hygiene, or frequent absence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Online risks \u2013 grooming, cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Tutor Responsibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All Teachwise Tutoring tutors are expected to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hold a valid Enhanced DBS check (or overseas equivalent if based outside the UK).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete safeguarding training at least to Level 1 (and refresh every 2 years).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be familiar with this Safeguarding Policy and the Tutor Code of Conduct.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain safe and professional boundaries with students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use only approved communication methods for lesson-related contact (no personal social media).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record and report all safeguarding concerns immediately to the DSL.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Reporting Concerns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the student is in the UK:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immediate danger: Call 999.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-emergency concern: Contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) or local safeguarding team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the student is overseas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immediate danger: Call the local emergency services number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-emergency concern: Report to the DSL (Joshua Howarth) immediately. The DSL will decide on next steps, which may include contacting local child protection agencies, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth &#038; Development Office, or safeguarding partners in that country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All cases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete a Safeguarding Concern Report Form within 24 hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not investigate the concern yourself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep information confidential and share only with the DSL.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Lone Working and Online Safety<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When working online:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Always use the approved Teachwise Tutoring platform or Zoom with password-protected links.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Record sessions where legally permissible and store them securely.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure a parent or guardian is aware of the lesson and can be present nearby.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When working face-to-face:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lessons should ideally take place where a responsible adult is present.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid being alone in a closed room without visibility to others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Record Keeping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All safeguarding concerns must be logged in the secure Teachwise Tutoring Safeguarding Register.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Records will be retained for a minimum of 7 years in accordance with GDPR and Data Protection laws.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overseas student records will also be stored securely in compliance with UK GDPR rules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Confidentiality<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tutors must never promise absolute confidentiality to a student if a safeguarding concern is disclosed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The limits of confidentiality should be explained clearly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis with appropriate authorities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Review and Monitoring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if required by legislation changes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The DSL will be responsible for updates and ensuring tutors have access to the latest version.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10.
